// How our pricing works

The honor system, and why it works.

Paying for Sophia Forge is on you. We don't lock features behind a license check, and we don't time you out of the app after 60 days. If you're using Forge to make money and you haven't bought a license, that's between you and your conscience. We'd rather build a tool people actually want to pay for than build a tool that punishes people who forgot.

When 1.0 ships, there will be a 60-day evaluation window. Download it, open your projects, ship a level, decide if Forge is part of your pipeline. No credit card, no account required to start.

Personal and Commercial are about who's paying, not what you get. They're the same software. The split is a simple revenue threshold: if your studio — or you, as a solo — makes over $20K/year from the work you're doing in Forge, we ask that you pick up Commercial. Under that, Personal is the right tier, and you're not missing anything.

// FAQ

Can I use Sophia Forge on multiple computers?

Yes. Licenses are per-user, not per-machine. If you're the person using Sophia Forge, install it on as many of your own computers as you want, as long as you only use Sophia Forge on one computer at a time.

How does beta work?

Beta is an unlimited evaluation period. Forge is a tool you're going to put real projects into, and the right way to evaluate that is to actually use it, not to read a feature list. During beta, you evaluate Forge for an unlimited period. When 1.0 ships, if it's earned a place in your pipeline, you pay for it.

What counts as commercial use?

Commercial use is when your studio — or you, as a solo — makes more than $20K/year from the work you're doing in Forge. Not the work you've ever done; the work currently running through the tool. Under the threshold, Personal is the right license. Over it, Commercial is. The software is identical either way.

What do I get as a Founding Supporter that paying later doesn't get me?

A permanent Personal license at half the 1.0 price, access to a private Founding Supporters Discord, and a direct line into roadmap priorities during the last stretch of beta. After 1.0, Personal is $99 and the room closes. The discount and the room are the whole offer — you get the same software either way.

Is there a student or educational discount?

Not during beta. We're evaluating educational licensing for after 1.0. If you're a student or educator and the Founding Supporter tier isn't workable for you, please reach out to us.

Why isn't there a subscription for Sophia Forge?

The core Sophia Forge application is a one-time purchase, yours forever. That covers the full Game Production App — level designer, Kanban, dialogue editor, UE5 plugin, all local plugins, and updates through version 2.99.x.

Some optional add-ons require ongoing infrastructure we pay for — such as shared collaborative services, and similar features that run on our servers rather than on your machine. Those are priced as subscriptions to cover their actual cost. You can always use Sophia Forge without them.

The principle: anything that runs on your computer is a one-time purchase. Anything that runs on ours is a subscription. We won't gate core features behind subscription.

Which features require a subscription?

Currently, none. Every feature in Sophia Forge runs locally on your machine, including LLM workflows (via local MCP). In the future, we plan to offer optional subscriptions for services that require hosted infrastructure — real-time collaboration is the first planned example, with more hosted services to follow. These will always be optional; the core Game Production App will remain a one-time purchase.

What happens to my projects long-term?

Your projects are yours, in open formats, on your disk. All Sophia Forge project files are JSON you can read with any text editor. If you stop updating Forge, if Sophia Foundry disappears, if you switch tools — your work is not locked to us. The JSON files travel with you. This is a deliberate architectural choice: your data is sovereign.

When does 1.0 ship?

When it's ready. We'd rather ship a stable 1.0 late than an unstable 1.0 on schedule.
